2017 Favourites

Image
Hi everyone These are my 2017 favourites: Handmade leather shoes from Redemption  in Wellington South Africa. My prescription glasses from Torga Optical  that I got this year. I got a really good price on them and I love them. Oskava Slippers  I got for my birthday from my family. These are proudly South African, super warm and super comfortable. I live in these in winter time. KeenMind is something I drink to help me concentrate and helps me absorb information much easier. R259.95 for 60 capsules and I drink 2 every day after breakfast. Softlips in vanilla for my dry lips, this and my phone is always with me even when I'm at home. It costs about R32.95. My Brew cappuccino that can only be found at Stellenbosch University for R17. I have at least one every day I am on campus. My Brew roast their own coffee beans and make their own blend. The cappuccino is the best temperature when received and ready to drink.  Big soft blanket fro

REVIEW: Eucerin Original Extra Thick Creme

Image
Hi everyone Two blog posts ago I wrote about my struggle with itchy skin and the body butter I used. The body butter worked for a while, but I still have times that I itch like crazy. Crazy to the point where I want to scratch my skin off, it sounds terrible but it's the honest truth. My mom came home one day and told me about these tubs of crème she saw at the pharmacy. We went to Dischem that following weekend to check it out. There were 3 different ones and I didn't know which one to chose. I chose this extra thick one for very dry compromised skin. It promises to seal in moisture and restore the skin's barrier. On the back it says: Emollient-rich formula seals in moisture Soothes and protects very dry, compromised skin Relieves dry skin associated with eczema, psoriasis, or drying medications to minimise the risk of skin irritation and allergies, no parabens, fragrance or colourants have been added Recommended by Dermatologists and Pedia

Brown eyeshadow makeup look

Hi everyone Today's blog is about how I got this makeup look yesterday when I was out and about in Stellenbosch. I am no expert, this look came from lots of practice. None of this is sponsored of course. My skin type: dry and acne prone. I have freckles, which I don't want to cover with my makeup. I just want to cover the redness I have and some spots and make my skin look the same colour all over as well as healthy. Before I apply my makeup: I wash my face, apply toner with a cotton pad and then I moisturize. After this I also apply sunscreen that especially for your face. I use: Bioderma Photoderm Max 50+ It is a bit pricy at R215 for 40ml, but I use it for months. It doesn't leave my skin feeling sticky or greasy and works great underneath my makeup. It just needs some time to settle into my skin. So after applying this I get dressed and do my hair, then I do my makeup. The foundation I use has Spf in it, but here in South Africa and wal

The symptom I'm struggling with the most: Super Itchy Skin

Image
Hi everyone If someone were to ask me what's the thing I struggling with most, my answer would be itchy skin. When I say itchy you probably just think itchy like a mosquito bite that's just super irritating. No, what I'm referring to is itching to the point where I cry and pray to God to just make it stop. The area that is itching so bad is my legs. The rest of my body sometimes too, but never as bad as my legs. Your first thought would be to get my levels checked, I promise you they are where they should me. The thyroid gland is linked to skin growth, therefore itchy skin is a common symptom for people with hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism can affect the sweat and oil producing glands which then dries out the skin. An underactive thyroid causes the body's metabolic rate to decrease. This abnormally low metabolic rate can also affect the skin's ability to grow and repair itself as it should, causing the skin to be itchy. For hyperthyroidism, this increased

My skincare routine

Hi everyone One of the biggest things I'm struggling with is my skin. I had really acne a few months ago and I got really frustrated about it. Acne is usually on the list of symptoms when you Google Hypothyroidism, this I find really frustrating. A list of symptoms that I'm just suppose to accept and live with, I don't think so. I'm not on any other hormone medication besides my Euthyrox so my hormones aren't always perfectly balanced. My periods are not every 28 days, sometimes it's really late and other times early. Obviously this also plays a factor with the acne I'm getting. Having Hypothyroidism can cause your hormones to be a bit all over the place. Throughout the time I was struggling with acne I just continued with the skincare routine I was following, only difference is I started using toner. It wasn't long before it cleared up. Now I only get spots hear and there around the time I have my period.  This is my skincare routine (I'm

The medication that helps me be the best version of myself

Image
Hi everyone I hope you are having an amazing day so far. Today I want to share with you the medication I'm taking and how I'm making sure that I'm the best version of myself. I'm currently taking 100mg of Euthyrox every morning before breakfast. The pamphlet inside says you should take it 30 minutes before breakfast, but I honestly don't do that. I asked my doctor about it and she says it doesn't make a difference, just take it before eating. Please consult your own doctor about this. I took Eltroxin since I was born and switched to Euthyrox about two years ago. The medical aid stopped paying the full amount for Eltroxin but pay the full about for Euthyrox. I switched from the one to the other without feeling any different and taking the same amount. The packaging and the taste differ. I use to chew the Eltroxin, but now take the Euthyrox with water. Don't worry, I asked the doctor if it was ok to chew the Eltroxin. Currently I take 100mg, i
